2010 White Salmon Cup Date: September 11, 2010 Meeting Time: 2 PM at Northwestern Lake Race Start Time: 3 PM below Maytag Rapid Entry Fee: $15/person (includes insurance, prizes, and afterparty) The White Salmon Cup is part of the 2010 Western Whitewater Championship Series (WWCS), a series of rafting races in Oregon, Washington, and California. The race is limited to the first six paddle boat teams of 4, the first six inflatable kayakers, and the first six catarafters to register. The race will take place in 2 stages 1. The first stage will start at the bottom of Maytag rapid and end 1/4 mile above Husum Falls. This is a timed skills race. You\'ll have several tasks to complete along the race that require strong eddy catching and ferrying skills. 2. The second stage will be a head to head race between the top 3 finishers in each boat category. This race will start just above Rattlesnake rapid and end at the boat ramp at Northwestern Lake. You will be required to flip your boat above Rattlesnake Rapid as well as at the end of the race. The winners of the second stage will win the race. It\'s that simple. A few important rules: Safety first. There\'s nothing funny about safety. Everyone must be at the race meeting at Northwestern Lake at 2 PM. You must be respectful of the natural environment and other boaters on the river. Everyone that enters the race must take out at Northwestern Lake. Every boat must carry a spare paddle or oar, a first aid kit, and a 75 foot throw bag (preferably the best throw bag ever made). To register Space is limited, so please sign up ahead of time. Send an email to zach@nwrafting.com with your name (or clever team name) and boat category. September 14, 2010 at 8:47 amPortland Dragon Boat Practice

Time: 8:47 am

Jeanie has 2 dragon boat teams that we are invited to join for evening practices on the Willamette. 1. The preferred team has more seats available (call that day to let her know your coming): Tuesdays at 7:30pm Thursdays at 7:00pm 2. The early team has fewer spots (call 24 hrs ahead): Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30pm Call Jeanie Zinn @ (503) 703-8113 to reserve a seat. Bring your pfd and warm splash-resistant clothes. Meet in the large concrete patio circle next to the boat docks behind the RiverPlace Hotel on the waterfront in downtown Portland. Be early and expect lots of middle-aged women to hit on you - fighting off the cougars is part of the training. Directions below. RiverPlace Hotel 1510 SW Harbor Way, Portland, OR 97201 There are two teams that we can practice with. Please be respectful of her generosity to invite us along and represent ORT well (be on time, show up if you reserve a spot, be a gracious guest, pay attention and paddle hard). The dragon boat paddle technique is highly refined and a big part of ORT\'s skill set. The perfect timing and precise paddle stroke that dragon boaters use are what we will need to beat 8-Ball at the UCWWF in May.
